The first time I saw her was on the back of a motorcycle, dark hair trailing behind her like a sail. She was traveling the opposite way down a rocky path (you could barely call it a road) on the outskirts of Kathmandu. She had her arms wrapped tightly around a man who was driving too fast for the rubble and the mud. I saw her from my own motorbike, and although it hurt to look away, I almost ran my bike into a ditch and had to clumsily overcorrect. I know she saw me, too, because she responded with an expression that was equal parts amusement and concern. Her looks caught my eye, of course, she was undeniably stunning – but there was a certain something else about her, too. As desperately as I wanted to meet her, my pride couldn't bring me to turn the bike around and perform some grand gesture at the risk of being rejected or accused of being creepy. I told myself that if we were meant to meet, we would. And, as luck has it, we did. Two years later, we found ourselves deep in the wormhole that is online dating and came across each other's profiles. I recognised her immediately, and to my surprise, she remembered me, too. Unbeknownst to us, we had been living two blocks away from each other for the better part of a year. We met up at the local cafe, and the rest is history. We haven't left each other's side since.

With such happenstance being our foundational story, our relationship feels free and trusting as a result. We both truly believe that what's meant for you won't pass you by.
