Let's face it, working with good clients can really make or break a shoot. This can come down to how a client is dressed, their personality type and general interests. Connecting with a client not only adds to the over shoot experience but the final image quality at the end of a shoot. It also provides us with on brand marketing content that will continue to drive ideal clients our way.
We sat down with the talented Morgan Augusta to chat about how to attract your dream clientele. Read on as we pick her brain on all the tips and tricks.
When it comes to 'what to wear', do you advise clients on outfit choices or do you simply attract well styled couples who have a great fashion sense?
Choosing an outfit is such an important part of a photoshoot in order for couples to look and feel their best! I send out a guide to all my couples before their shoot giving them my best tips and words of advise to prepare for their shoot and recommendations for picking the perfect outfit! Three basic considerations I like to include for narrowing down what to wear is finding something that is neutral, flowy, and classic. For some couples it’s second nature and they’ve planned their outfit weeks before and for others, they might need a little help with putting it all together—I’m always here to help!
How did you get into engagement / wedding photography?
My love for engagements and wedding photography originated from my love for, well, LOVE. I’m a huge hopeless romantic—big fan of Valentine’s Day, cries at every wedding, fan-girl over my couples kinda girl. I find so much joy in following along people’s love stories, being able to see little pieces of their heart revealed for each other and documenting those moments through imagery.
What are your top tips on finding your niche as a photographer?
My biggest tip for finding your niche as a photographer is to shoot, shoot, shoot. The more you get out there and photograph the more you’ll learn what you love. Take photos of your friends, family, neighbors, strangers, whoever you can! Get out there and dip your toes in every style of photography so you can discover what you love most. Take inspiration from other artists, make mood boards, participate in mentor sessions/styled shoots and continue to show up for your business and yourself.
What strategy did you use to brand yourself and get in front of your ideal clientele?
In order to attract your ideal client you need to first figure who that is! Think about what that client looks like, what their hobbies are, where they like to eat, shop, travel THEN seek them out! Make an authentic effort to create meaningful relationships with those individuals that is not only intended to serve you but also to serve them! Be who you are and people will naturally relate to that kind of vulnerability—and above all, be intentional with your relationships, a steward to your craft, and prioritize connection over competing for clientele. This will inevitably lead to building a brand people can trust and something they will want to stand behind and invest in.
